75-year-old man arraigned for allegedly killing his wife

Geita. Bujukano Lusana, a 75-year-old resident of Kibanga village in Mbogwe District, Geita Region, has been formally charged with manslaughter in the Geita High Court for allegedly killing his wife, Maria Masalu, by beating her with a stick.

The case, numbered 29166/2024, involves charges under Sections 195(1) and 198 of the Penal Code, Chapter 16, as revised in 2022.

During the initial hearing, State Prosecutor Scolastica Teffe presented the case, detailing the events of February 28, 2024.

Teffe reported that on this date in Kabanga village, Lusana allegedly struck his wife with a stick while she was on the ground, inflicting fatal injuries to her head and back.

"The autopsy report confirmed that the injuries caused by the beating led to the deceased's death," Teffe stated.

The prosecution plans to present nine witnesses and two pieces of evidence in the trial.

Lusana has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Judge Kelvin Mhina has adjourned the case to a future date, which will be set for the continuation of the hearing.

Lusana is being represented by independent lawyer Eliaman Ayoub.
