Another Ebola death reported in Kampala

Kampala. Uganda’s Ministry of Health has reported another Ebola virus disease death in Kampala, a few days after discharging eight people who the officials said recovered from the viral disease following treatment in Mulago and Mbale referral hospitals.
"Following the outbreak of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease on 30th January, 2025, the Ministry of Health would like to update the general public about an additional positive case in Mulago, a resident of Kibuli linked to the primary cluster," reads the March 1 statement from the Ministry.
"The identified case is of a four and half - year-old child, who presented and died with classical presentation of Ebola from Mulago hospital on Tuesday 25th February, 2025. As of today, a total of ten (10) cases have been confirmed."
"Unfortunately, the first case, also known as the index case, and the tenth case have succumbed to the Ebola disease. It is important to note that on 18th and 19th February, 2025 the Ministry of Health discharged eight recovered Ebola survivors who had been hospitalized in Kampala and Mbale. They were integrated in their communities, and they live a normal life," the Ministry added.
In the statement, the ministry said they are continuing with "aggressing Ebola response," which includes the process of contact tracing, management and vaccination of all contacts linked the case.
"Further, the Ministry continues with heightened surveillance efforts, including; active cases search at all health facilities, exit screening for all outbound travelers and intensified public messaging on presentation and prevention," the statement reads.
"The Ministry of Health reassures the public that Ebola outbreak is under control and the country remains safe for trade, travel and tourism. All travellers around the country are urged to adhere the Ministry Health guidelines and protocols such as regular hand washing with soap /hand sanitizers and avoid unnecessary body contact," the statement reads further.
