Dar es Salaam. Kenya’s President William Ruto has taken the unprecedented step of dissolving his entire Cabinet, dismissing all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General, effective immediately.
In a national address from State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, President Ruto announced the decision, exempting Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs from the dismissal.
"I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General of the Cabinet of Kenya, except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs," President Ruto stated.
He clarified that the office of the Deputy President remains unaffected by this decision.
President Ruto outlined that the responsibilities of the ministries will be handled by Principal Secretaries temporarily, while plans are underway to constitute a new cabinet.
"The affairs of the Ministries will be overseen by Principal Secretaries as we move forward to appoint a new cabinet," President Ruto explained.
He emphasized that the formation of the new cabinet will involve extensive consultations across various sectors and with diverse political formations and stakeholders.
"I will engage in broad consultations across different sectors, political formations, and with other Kenyans, both in public and private spheres. This process aims to establish a government with a wide base that will support me in accelerating and ensuring the urgent and irreversible implementation of our programs, including other necessary radical measures to address the debt burden," President Ruto added.
