Tanzania’s ruling party nominates 10 candidates for East African Legislative Assembly seat

  • The nomination process has narrowed down the field from 37 aspirants to 10 selected candidates.

Dar es Salaam. The Central Committee of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) on Sunday, September 1, 2024 nominated ten candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) seat, following the death of Dr Shongo Sedoyeka on June 13, 2024.

The nomination process has narrowed down the field from 37 aspirants to 10 selected candidates.

The CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training, Mr Amos Makalla, made the announcement on Sunday after a meeting of the party's secretariat and a special Central Committee session.

The ten nominees are Gladness Salema, Maria Sebastian, Queenelizabeth Makune, Ester Chaula, Professor Neema Kumburu, Lucia Pande, Fatuma Kange, Hawa Mkwela, Fatma Msofe, and Theresia Dominic.

A vote to finalize the candidate selection will be held tomorrow, September 2, 2024, at 2:00PM, during a meeting of the CCM Parliamentary Committee in Dodoma.

This will be followed by the final election for the Eala seat on September 5, 2024, which will involve all members of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.
