Tanzania's Angela Ruhinda pens Netflix’s newest heist comedy, ‘Inside Job’

Tanzanian film producer and award-nominated scriptwriter Angela Ruhinda is once again making waves in East Africa’s film scene—this time with a major Netflix release.
Following her acclaimed work as Head Writer on Big Girl Small World, which earned her a nomination at Kenya’s Women in Film Awards earlier this year, Ruhinda returns with her latest project, Inside Job, premiering June 14 on Netflix.
The film is a sharp, fast-paced crime comedy that follows a group of broke women who take justice—and cash—into their own hands. Its punchy tagline: “Crime pays… and these girls are broke!”
Directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga (Nairobi Half Life, Supa Modo), Inside Job blends Nairobi street grit with unapologetic humour, unexpected twists, and emotional punch.
“This new milestone means a lot to me—it's a pivotal moment in my creative career,” says Angela.
She notes that Gitonga, a long-time inspiration, had always been part of her vision for a powerful East African collaboration.
“He’s a force in the Kenyan film industry. I’m beyond grateful he liked my idea and took Inside Job to Netflix. I hope to see more filmmakers from the region collaborate and make waves together.”
Director Gitonga added his own tease ahead of the premiere: “Pure madness, raw heart, and hilarious twists… We cooked, now it’s time to serve.”
