Are we really comparing Shilole to J.Lo?

What you need to know:

  • Shilole, a mother of two, was first married at 17, and her subsequent marriages have ended in divorce.
  • Lopez’s first marriage was to Ojani Noa in 1997, which ended after 11 months.

Dar es Salaam. Recently, some fans have started comparing Bongo Flava singer and businesswoman Shilole, 36, to American star Jennifer Lopez, 55, following Shilole's announcement of her new partner after the recent end of her third marriage to Rajab Issa, alias Rommy.

However, drawing comparisons between Shilole and Lopez is misguided.

Shilole, a mother of two, was first married at 17, and her subsequent marriages have ended in divorce.

Her previous relationships include fellow artist Nuh Mziwanda and Ashiraf Sadick 'Uchebe', and her latest marriage to Rommy, which concluded in April 2024.

Jennifer Lopez’s marital history is quite different. She was first married at 27 and has had four marriages, including recent high-profile relationships.

Lopez’s first marriage was to Ojani Noa in 1997, which ended after 11 months.

She also had significant relationships with David Cruz, Puff Daddy (Diddy), Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony. Lopez’s relationships have frequently been in the public eye, including her recent engagements and marriage to Ben Affleck in 2022, her fourth marriage.

Shilole’s three failed marriages contrast sharply with Lopez’s four, and Lopez’s extensive list of partners includes eight significant relationships.

Despite this, Shilole’s situation and Lopez’s are fundamentally different due to the timing, public exposure, and nature of their personal lives.

Shilole remains a prominent figure in Bongo Flava, with notable Instagram following and a successful music career, including hits like "Nakomaa na Jiji" and "Say My Name."

She is also the founder of her own label, Shishi Gang, joining other female Bongo stars in establishing their labels.

While both women are well-known and have experienced multiple relationships, comparing Shilole and Jennifer Lopez overlooks the significant differences in their personal and public lives.
