Harmonize, Mbosso, Zuchu named top artistes by Boomplay

As the year draws to a close, music streaming and download platform, Boomplay, has unveiled its yearly report of music consumption on the platform, reflecting music streaming data of local music scenes.

Tagged #BoomplayRecap2023, the report is segmented into three to focus on country, artist and user insights of 2023.

Despite the challenges faced by the music industry in recent years, 2023 has been another great year for Tanzanian music.

From the captivating music releases accompanied with trending sounds and viral dance challenges to the exploits of Tanzanian artists, Tanzania has been at the forefront of African music.

The streaming platform recorded an increase in its catalogue to 120 million songs with over 10 million plus artists and 7500 plus content providers in the year under review.

The most popular music genres in 2023 on Boomplay include Bongo Flava, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Afrofusion, Gospel and HipHop & Rap.

According to the Boomplay Recap 2023 for Tanzania, Harmonize, Mbosso and Diamond Platnumz were the top three male artists, while Zuchu, Nandy and Yammi were the top three female artists. Jaivah, Mavokali and Kontawa were the top rising artists.

The most streamed song of 2023 on Boomplay Tanzania was Puuh by Billnas ft. Jay Melody, followed by Utaniua by Zuchu and Mahaba by Alikiba.

The most streamed album of 2023 on Boomplay Tanzania was Khan by Mbosso, followed by Made for Us by Harmonize and The Kid You Know by Marioo.
