Nelly Kamwelu, first and only Tanzanian beauty queen in four grand slam pageants in one year

Nelly Kamwelu

Nelly Kamwelu, a Tanzanian model and beauty pageant titleholder, made history as the first Tanzanian to compete in four Grand Slam Pageants in a single year.

After winning Miss Universe Tanzania 2011, she represented the nation at Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth, and Miss Tourism Queen International, showcasing Tanzania’s beauty and culture globally.

Born to a Tanzanian father and a Russian mother, Kamwelu’s pageantry journey began in 2008 as the second runner-up in the Miss Ilala contest, leading to her debut in Miss Tanzania.

Her 2011 victory in Miss Universe Tanzania took her to São Paulo, Brazil, where her stunning national costume gained recognition.

Kamwelu later competed in Miss International in China, Miss Earth in the Philippines, and finished fourth at Miss Tourism Queen International in China.

She also won Miss Southern Africa International in Zambia, taking home the Best Evening Gown award.

Now, Kamwelu stars in Huba, a popular TV series about family, greed, and love.
