In a remarkable achievement for the Tanzanian creative industry, the 3D animated film Kijana Kijani has garnered significant recognition, winning the “Best Animation” award at the London Pan African Film Festival and receiving a special mention at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival.

At the heart of Kijana Kijani is Heri, a young inventor who embodies the resilience and hope of Tanzanian youth.
Gwamaka Mwabuka, Co-Founder and Director at Tai Impact, describes Heri as a character that reflects his generation’s spirit.
He says, “Heri refuses to give up, even when his community faces devastating impacts from climate change.”
Inspired by his previous efforts against malaria in Mbuland, Heri mobilises his community to tackle environmental challenges, emphasising that Tanzania’s future lies in its youth.
“Our goal was to capture the spirit of Tanzania while making a universal story,” adds Mr Mwabuka.
He emphasises that Kijana Kijani serves as a global call to action, reminding viewers that anyone can make a difference.
