Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz has outlined plans to nurture fresh talent at his Wasafi record label as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s music industry.
Speaking exclusively on his own Wasafi FM, Diamond said the label, officially known as Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), will introduce at least two new artistes by July, with the possibility of adding a third later in the year.
Founded in 2015, WCB has grown into one of East Africa’s most influential music labels, playing a key role in shaping the modern Bongo Flava sound and exporting Tanzanian music to global audiences.
“Not every artiste who joins Wasafi will stay forever. That’s normal, contracts run for specific periods. Even if they remain, management must guide them,” Diamond said, highlighting the importance of professional oversight.
He emphasised that the label is focused on identifying artistes with long-term potential rather than short-lived hype.
“We are not just looking for anyone; we need artistes who can grow and succeed internationally,” he explained. “We want to make sure these artistes complete albums and music videos professionally. It’s not about luck or hype; it’s about planning and commitment.”
Over the years, WCB has served as a launchpad for several successful artistes, including Harmonize, Rayvanny, Mbosso, Rich Mavoko, D Voice, Lava Lava and Zuchu, many of whom have gone on to build strong independent careers.
Zuchu remains among the most recent high-profile signings to the label, joining in 2020 and quickly rising to become one of Tanzania’s leading female artistes under WCB.
Diamond said the latest recruitment drive reflects his continued commitment to structured talent development and sustaining the industry’s growth. His remarks signal WCB’s ongoing mission to build the next generation of stars capable of making an impact both locally and globally.
