Four Chadema supporters charged

Dodoma. Four supporters of the main opposition Chadema were yesterday charged at the Dodoma District Court with eight counts including that of causing grievous bodily harm to three Dodoma residents.

They are also facing charges of destructing property. State attorney Beatrice Nsana alleged before resident magistrate James Karayemaha that the accused: Juma Bika alias Mtaalam, George Mwingira, Fulgence Mapunda and Deogratia Peter attacked and wounded Fatma Issa, Athuman Waziri, Sira Aron and Christina Mulungu on September 11.

The incident allegedly occurred at Area C in Dodoma. The state lawyer further alleged that the accused also did substantial damage to four cars including one belonging to the ruling CCM.

The four men who are defended by advocate Fred Kalonga denied the charges and were released on bail after securing one surety each and a Sh1million bond. The case will come for mention on October 5 as investigations continue. Speaking to reporters after being granted bail, one of the accused, Mr Mwingira, said the case was fabricated and it’s part of CCM’s tactics to threaten Tanzanians against supporting Chadema candidate Edward Lowassa, who is backed by a coalition of four opposition parties.

“We’ll not be intimidated. We’ll ensure Lowassa goes to Ikulu,” he vowed
