Dar es Salaam. Two Tanzanians, Mr Edwin Bruno and Ms Hellen Dausen have made to the list of Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 as the most promising entrepreneurs from around the continent.
The dual are joined on the list by other young entrepreneurs from Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Benin, Gambia and Zimbabwe.
The young entrepreneurs who made it to the list are believed to have the potential to get on the FORBES AFRICA cover, meaning they will have a net worth of not less than $200 million, employ thousands of people and help grow the African economy.
Commenting on his achievement, Mr Bruno, a Tanzanian entrepreneur and winner of the 2015 Tanzania Leadership Awards as the Young Achiever in 2015 said he was honoured to represent the amazing work.
“We have been working hard to develop solutions for our clients. There have been many sleepless nights, and although I was the only one mentioned in the list, this success is for my whole team,” he said.
He added that last year his cutting edge mobile app ‘M-Paper’ was recognised by Apps Africa and won the Best Educational Innovation App in Africa. M-paper lets users read all newspapers from cover to cover on their mobile phones or desktops at half the price.
Speaking on the future of Smart Codes, M-paper and the tech environment in general, the young achiever said: Forbes Africa believes we have the potential to be on the cover of Forbes, it is up to us to make sure we do and we will. The tech industry is here to stay, so is Smart Codes.
Ms Dausen who is a Founder of Nuya’s Essence, a Skin Care Formulator says she never imagined of one day being in the list because she has not been in business for that long. She is, however, thankful that Forbes Africa has given her such an amazing platform. “I never dreamt that one day I would be in Forbes magazine, for the past two days I had to pinch myself to see if what is happening isn’t a dream at all. I am glad that Forbes Africa have recognised my initiatives and I do hope this will encourage young men and women to never give up on their hopes and dreams,” she said.
Research, coupled with nominations from readers brought the number to 250 potentials under 30 years of age. The team favoured entrepreneurs with fresh ideas and took into account their business size, location, potential, struggles and determination.
