21 pupils rescued from drowning as three go missing in Lake Victoria

Those still missing are Kumbuka Bruno Thomas, 13, (Standard Five); Anastazia christopher, 12, (Standard Three) and Sophia Muungano, 11, (Standard Two).

It has emerged that 21 pupils out of 24 of Butwa Primary School in Izumacheli Ward on Butwa Island have been rescued from drowning in Lake Victoria while three are still missing.

Those still missing are Kumbuka Bruno Thomas, 13, (Standard Five); Anastazia christopher, 12, (Standard Three) and Sophia Muungano, 11, (Standard Two).

The children drowned yesterday when they were being taken across the lake on a dhow for home at Lulegeya hamlet from Butwa Primary School at 4:47pm, according to the Geita District Commissioner, Mr Herman Kapufi.
