Over 74,000 TRA job applicants fail to advance to next recruitment stage

Dar es Salaam. About 92 percent of candidates who sat for written interviews for various positions at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) have failed to qualify for the next stage of the recruitment process.
According to a list released on April 26, 2025, only 6,505 out of 80,888 candidates were shortlisted for oral interviews and practical assessments. A total of 74,383 applicants did not advance.
An analysis by The Citizen shows that for the Tax Management Officer Grade II positions, 1,784 candidates were shortlisted from 18,139 applicants. For the Tax Management Assistant positions, 974 out of 5,491 candidates progressed.
In the Customs Officer Grade II category, 862 candidates were selected out of 14,614 applicants. In the Driver category, 553 candidates advanced from a pool of 3,480.
TRA announced that the next stage of the selection process will be made public on April 29, 2025, through the authority’s official website.
In February 2025, TRA advertised 1,596 vacancies across various departments, including 573 positions for Tax Management Officer Grade II, 232 for Customs Officer Grade II, 253 for Tax Management Assistant Grade II, 154 for Customs Assistant Grade II, and 15 for Assistant Lecturer.
