What you need to know:
- What began as a boardroom conversation has evolved into a transformative movement that redefines how we celebrate women while championing gender equality across various sectors in Tanzania.
Mwanchi Communications Limited (MCL) is pleased to announce the launch of the 5th edition of The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative (RWI) under the theme “Accelerate Her Impact.”
What began as a boardroom conversation has evolved into a transformative movement that redefines how we celebrate women while championing gender equality across various sectors in Tanzania.
The initiative was launched on February 1, 2021, with the publication of 60 profiles of women leaders between February and March of that year. These stories aimed to inspire other women by sharing their career journeys and the challenges they overcame to reach top leadership positions.
The inaugural edition, themed “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future,” culminated in a celebration at the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
At the time, then-Managing Director Bakari Machumu emphasized that Rising Woman was designed to develop women leaders capable of excelling in both public and private institutions while contributing to business growth in an increasingly competitive world.
He highlighted that RWI aligns with MCL’s mission of driving positive societal change by informing audiences about challenges and opportunities.
He further noted that the initiative brings critical discussions to the forefront, inspiring young girls in schools and women across various industries by showcasing the achievements of those who have paved the way before them.
Today, The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative stands as a powerful platform, not just celebrating women as achievers, but recognizing them as architects of a future where equality is not merely envisioned but actively realized.
The impact of RWI has grown significantly since its inception. In its first year alone:
283 attendees, the majority being women, participated in the celebration.
62 articles on women in leadership were published.
10 outstanding women were recognized as The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative winners.
The event garnered over 60 million views.
The initiative reached more than 9 million digital users.
As Rising Woman continues to grow, it remains committed to amplifying the voices of women and shaping a future of greater inclusion and opportunity
