Dar es Salaam. As Tanzania and the rest of the World observed the International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) on Monday, the grave of a child who was living with albinism was recently vandalised by unknown people in Nyakashenyi village in Kyerwa district, Kagera Region.

The vandals are believed to have made away with her remains in an incident that occurred on the eve of May 29.

 According to the child’s parents, they were left in utter shock after they noticed that the grave of their daughter, Magufuli Bagumisa was empty something they found out  shortly after they woke up in the morning.

 According to Bagumisa’s parents, Mr Isaka Bigumisa  36, the deceased was born on October 26, 2015, died on January 06, 2016 and was buried on the same day.

 The police has confirmed the horrific news, saying the remains were stolen and that they had launched investigations.

 In another incident, Ms Kulwa Jawilu (5) and Ms Tausi Jawilu (8), who are both living with albinism, escaped abduction after a gang raided their home in Bulunde Village, Tabora Region on May 23. 

After storming the house shortly after midnight, they snatched Kulwa’s twin brother and beat him up, as a tactic to soften his parents to surrender the other child.

 Fortunately, Kulwa had slept at his grand parents’ house while Tausi managed to hide in a sack of maize.

The matter was reported to the police and Social Welfare Department of Nzega District.

 A senior social welfare Officer in Nzega, Ms Theresia Simon and, told Under the Same Sun that the Jawilu family had been relocated to a safe house.
