Banana growers cry over construction of international market

Mbeya. Banana growers in Bujonde Village in Rungwe District have asked the government to speed up the construction of the international banana market to open up economic opportunities. Speaking to The Citizen on Sunday, farmers said banana business had dropped substantially, a situation that made traders set their own prices that did not match with production costs. Speaking on lack of the market, Mbeya regional commissioner Amos Makalla (pictured) said the government had prioritised to construct the international banana market next year and they were strategising to set aside an area for the purpose.
