Big turn up at the East Africa Got Talent auditions in Dar es Salaam

What you need to know:

By closing time on Sunday May 26, over 2700 contestants had auditioned and that is minus those who have auditioned through online platforms.

Dar es Salaam. Thousands of contestants yesterday turned up for the East Africa Got Talent Producer’s auditions held at the Julius Nyerere International Conventional Centre in Dar es Salaam.

The two days of auditions witnessed long lines as those who considered themselves talented in different fields put themselves up for a chance of a lifetime at the inaugural edition of the world famous show.

Organisers say they were mesmerized with the array of talent that was on display with contestants coming from all walks of life and age groups.

“By closure on Sunday we had registered 2700 contestants and that is minus those who have auditioned through online platforms. We are indeed happy with what we have seen here and it is rather unfortunate that we have to pick only 30,” one of the officials told the Citizen on Phone.

The selected 30 will join other 90 contestants from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda for the live auditions to be held in Nairobi late in the year.

After the Dar es Salaam leg the auditions which is managed by Production Company Rapid Blue now heads to Kigali, Rwanda before concluding in Nairobi.

Conceived in 2006 and owned by Simon Cowell’s  SYCOtv company, the franchise has been featured in over 58 countries worldwide, with the most famous being America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent.

In April 2014, Guinness World Records named the program the world’s most successful reality TV format ever. Singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages will be competing for the advertised top prize of one million dollars.

It is not clear whether the founder of the show Simon Cowell will attend the final episodes of the show that is set to air in the second half of the year.
