CCM secretary general sends condolences to JPM following ferry disaster

Mtwara. The ruling CCM secretary general, Dr Bashiru Ally, has sent condolences to President John Magufuli and all Tanzanians following the capsizing of MV-Nyerere in Lake Victoria, Mwanza Region.
Dr Ally issued the condolences while on his official tour of Mtwara Region on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
“Let us continue to mourn the losses of our beloved ones. It is also high time we learnt how to prevent disasters from happening,” he said.
The top CCM leader further revealed that he had postponed some of his official duties in the region following the ferry disaster, with a view to joining Tanzanians in mourning the losses.
“I have not postponed all my tours, but I will need to cancel some of them so that I can mourn the losses,” he said.
He added: “I acknowledge the various CCM regional and district leaders who are present in the scene representing us.”
He also revealed that he had sent two other top party leaders to Mwanza Region, including the party’s secretary of Ideology and Publicity, Mr Humphrey Polepole, to observe the ongoing operations at the scene.
Meanwhile, Nanyamba MP Abdallah Chikota and Nanyumbu MP William Dua have also sent condolences messages to the bereaved families of people who perished in the ferry disaster.
“I would like to take this opportunity to send my condolences to the families and relatives who have been affected by the losses of their beloved ones,” said Mr Chikota.
He further urged the relevant government authorities to effectively oversee water transport operators who offer public services, in order to prevent such disasters from happening in the future.
According to reports, over 190 people have so far been confirmed dead following the disaster and 41 people including the ferry’s captain were reportedly rescued.
