Dar es Salaam. The Secretary-General of the ruling CCM party, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, has called on the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Daniel Sillo, to engage with his superior, Minister Hamad Masauni, regarding the release of Chadema leaders who were arrested in Mbeya Region.

Dr Nchimbi made this appeal on Monday, August 12, 2024, during a public meeting in Katoro Ward, Geita Region, where he is on a tour after visiting Kagera Region.

He explained that while attempting to reach out to leaders of other political parties for discussions, he learnt that some of them had been arrested in Mbeya.

"Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, please speak with the Minister. We ask you to consider releasing the political party leaders who were arrested in Mbeya. Give us, as politicians, the chance to address these matters through dialogue. Not everything should be handled through legal channels; some issues are inherently political," Dr Nchimbi said, addressing the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, who accompanied him on the tour.

The arrested leaders reportedly include Chadema Chairman Freeman Mbowe, Secretary-General John Mnyika, Nyasa Region Chairman Joseph Mbilinyi (also known as Sugu), Bavicha Chairman John Pambalu, and other council leaders.

Also among the arrested are Bavicha leaders Twaha Mwaipaya, Moza Ally, Deusdedith Soka, lawyer Deogratias Mahinyila, and journalists from Jambo TV, Ramadhan Khamis, and Fadhil Kirundwa.
