Dar es Salaam. The opposition party, Chadema, has strongly condemned recent allegations made by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Publicity Secretary, Amos Makala.
In a statement, Chadema refuted claims that its "TONE TONE" fundraising campaign is linked to the spread of viruses such as Mpox and Ebola, purportedly aimed at disrupting the upcoming general elections in Tanzania.
Chadema has labeled these accusations as baseless, malicious, and reckless, emphasizing that they distort the party’s reputation and disrespect public health professionals.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to both the well-being of Tanzanians and global health security, aligning its efforts with the World Health Organization's (WHO) International Health Regulations (IHR) and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).
According to Chadema, these frameworks emphasise the importance of developing strong public health systems, transparent information sharing, and international collaboration in pandemic prevention and control.
“Chadema strongly rejects these false and harmful claims,” said a party spokesperson. “Such allegations are not only misleading but also divert attention from the pressing national issues that need urgent attention. They undermine public health initiatives and distort the integrity of democratic processes.”
The opposition party stressed that it has always advocated for open dialogue, electoral reforms, and a fair democratic process.
According to Chadema, their political agenda is focused on improving the lives of Tanzanians, ensuring citizen safety, and protecting the nation’s democratic fabric. In particular, the party remains committed to ensuring the upcoming elections are free and fair, reflecting the true will of the people.
Furthermore, Chadema called on the international community, including the WHO, to critically evaluate the Tanzanian government’s stance before endorsing any actions from an administration that undermines global health initiatives.
The party emphasized that the focus should remain on addressing the real health and societal challenges facing Tanzania, rather than engaging in politically motivated disinformation.
