Change your leadership style, Zitto tells Magufuli

ACT-Wazalendo party leader Zitto Kabwe

Mr Kabwe also appealed to Zanzibar President Ali Mohammed Shein and his political rival, Mr Seif Sharif Hamad of CUF, to put their differences aside.

Dar es Salaam. ACT-Wazalendo party leader Zitto Kabwe yesterday asked President John Pombe Magufuli to change his modus operandi, saying his style is a threat to democracy.

Addressing hundreds of ACT supporters at Mbagala Zakhem grounds in Dar es Salaam, Mr Kabwe also appealed to Zanzibar President Ali Mohammed Shein and his political rival, Mr Seif Sharif Hamad of CUF, to put their differences aside and agree to hold fresh elections in Zanzibar.

The Kigoma Urban MP said his party supports President Magufuli in his war on corruption war, but were against what he was his tendency to suppress freedom of thought and expression.

“Parliament is under attack. It started with the appointment of Dr Tulia Ackson, who State House wanted to become speaker, but after strong opposition, she became deputy speaker. She is now going out her way to suppress the freedom and powers of Parliament, and this is after live coverage of Parliament was banned.”

Mr Kabwe said even the Controller and Auditor General’s office has been crippled after its budget was slashed by half.

“President Magufuli wants us to go the North Korean way, where only the president is seen and heard taking action all the time. That is dictatorship and we will never accept that,” he said, and promised to hold such meetings all over the country.
