Chaos at Namanga border over the alleged kidnapping of Kenyan trader

What you need to know:

  • A businessman at the Namanga border identified as Moha was allegedly taken from his place of work in a Tanzanian registered car on March 26, 2017 at around 9pm.

Namanga. Residents of the border town of Namanga on the Kenyan side have blocked all vehicles from entering the country over allegations involving the abduction of a Kenyan businessman.

The businessman who was only identified by as Moha is claimed to have been taken from his place of work in a vehicle with Tanzanian registration.

“Since he was taken yesterday at night, he has not been seen,” said one Odinga Nguduu.

Commenting on the blockade Longido District Commissioner Frank Mwaisumbe said that it was illogical for any group of people to stop vehicles from crossing the border.

“That’s unlawful and we will have to use state apparatus to stop this madness,” he said.

Mr Mwaisumbe urged the Namanga residents to calm down as the government was investigating the matter.

“There’s no need for violence as we are now investigating this matter so that we can know who are the perpetrators and hence necessary legal measures taken against them,” he said.

The Citizen has been reliably informed that the Arusha Regional Police Commander Jonathan Shanni is in Namanga to closely monitor the situation at the border.
