Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is set to sign a collaborative agreement with the Comoros National Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN) to advance Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in both countries.

The partnership was initiated during a skills exchange meeting held over the weekend at TCRA's Mawasiliano Towers in Dar es Salaam.

The Union of the Comoros delegation, led by Ambassador Said Yakubu and ANADEN Director General Mr Said Muoinuo Ahamada, expressed their admiration for Tanzania’s progress in ICT, facilitated by TCRA’s strategic initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of TCRA Director General Dr Jabiri Bakari, the Director of Industrial Affairs (DIA), Mwesigwa Felician, welcomed the Comorian delegation and outlined Tanzania’s key ICT achievements.

These include the establishment of the National Data Centre and Tanzania's recognition as a leader in cybersecurity in East and Central Africa, as ranked by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Cyber Security Index.

Mwesigwa also noted the widespread adoption of mobile money services, used by over 90 percent of the population, with 60.8 million SIM cards registered as of September 2024.

“Tanzania has made remarkable progress in ICT and serves as a model for effective digital transformation. We are pleased to share our experiences with Comoros and look forward to fostering stronger ties,” said Mwesigwa.

Mr Ahamada stated that their visit aimed to learn from Tanzania's advancements to establish critical ICT systems in Comoros, including an e-Government agency, a national domain registry, and a national data center.

“Our goal is to enhance the growth of internet usage and digital services in both the government and private sectors. With financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB), we hope to strengthen our ICT infrastructure and build the expertise necessary for sustainable development,” he said.

He emphasized the need for capacity building to improve system interoperability and enhance the skills of Comorian ICT professionals.

Mr Yakubu expressed optimism about signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TCRA and ANADEN to formalize their collaboration.

“The MoU will pave the way for expert exchanges and capacity-building initiatives. We anticipate hosting Tanzanian experts in Comoros to assess and provide guidance on system improvements,” said Mr Yakubu.

The proposed partnership underscores a shared commitment to leveraging ICT for economic growth and development in Tanzania and Comoros.
