The company has reiterated that all official communication comes exclusively from the number 100, warning customers to be wary of calls or messages from unknown sources posing as Airtel representatives.
Speaking at Airtel Tanzania’s headquarters yestraday, Corporate Communications Director Beatrice Singano advised customers to be cautious of messages or calls from any other numbers claiming to be from the telco.
“Many Tanzanians fall victim to fraudsters who send messages from unfamiliar numbers, requesting money transfers. We strongly advise our customers to confirm with the intended recipient before making any payments,” Ms Singano said.
She further emphasized the importance of safeguarding mobile money PINs. “Your four-digit PIN should remain confidential. Sharing it with anyone, even those close to you, increases the risk of fraudsters accessing your account and making unauthorized transactions,” Singano warned.
To enhance security, customers are encouraged to report suspicious numbers by sending them to 15040 and to check their registered phone numbers using the *106# service. Additionally, in cases of phone theft, users should promptly report the incident to the police to prevent further risks.
Airtel Tanzania remains committed to safeguarding its customers, urging the public to stay informed and take proactive steps in securing their mobile money accounts.
