This year’s contributions, valued at TZS 36 million, included a wheelchair, hockey equipment, sanitary pads, specialised oils for students with albinism, and other essential items tailored to the needs of these students.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Assistant Director in the Department of Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ms Ellen Maduhu, highlighted the significance of the donation. “The support provided today to these special needs schools will greatly enhance the living conditions of students with disabilities,” she said.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The beneficiary schools were Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School, Jeshi La Wokovu Primary School, Jangwani Secondary School, and Pugu Secondary School.

On behalf of the Tanzanian government, Ms Maduhu extended gratitude to the ADG. “I take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to the ADG for your unwavering support for persons with special needs. We value our excellent relationship and remain committed to further strengthening these ties for the mutual benefit of our countries and peoples,” she remarked.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Union of Comoros, Dr Ahamada El Badaoui Mohamed also spoke at the event, emphasising the importance of the day. “This is a moment to foster understanding, advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, and underscore the significance of inclusion and well-being for all members of society,” he said.

Dr Mohamed thanked the sponsors and donors, whose generosity made the event possible. “Your contributions will have a meaningful impact on the lives of children with special needs. We also recognise the presence of distinguished Ambassadors from the ADG and other esteemed guests,” he added.
