Floods kill nine family members in Tarime

New Content Item (1)

Tarime. Tragedy struck in Tarime District as nine members of a single family lost their lives when floodwaters swept through their homes following heavy rains in the area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of November 25, 2024, in Bugosi Ward, Tarime Town Council, Mara Region. Reports show that the victims’ bodies were carried away by floodwaters into the nearby Mori River.

Speaking to reporters, Tarime District Commissioner Edward Gowele confirmed that seven bodies have so far been recovered from the river.

Search efforts are ongoing, with the involvement of rescue teams and local residents.

“Two individuals managed to survive the incident. However, apart from the tragic loss of lives, the floods have also destroyed crops in the fields and damaged property,” Mr Gowele said.

Authorities have called for vigilance among residents living in flood-prone areas and urged them to relocate to safer locations as heavy rains continue in the region.

Emergency response teams remain on high alert to assist affected communities.

The government has promised to provide support to the survivors and the families of the victims as recovery efforts continue.
