Jackson Clement, a Form Four student who narrowly escaped death in the Kariakoo building collapse, has received assurances from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) that he will not lose his right to complete his exams.
Clement is among the survivors of the four-storey building collapse in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam, which claimed 16 lives, injured over 86 people, and caused property damage worth millions of Tanzanian shillings on November 16, 2024.
On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Clement, a student at Charambe Secondary School, recounted his ordeal. He explained that he usually helped his brother-in-law over weekends and that, on the day of the tragedy, he had already completed seven of his Form Four exams.
The Form Four national examinations began on November 11 and are scheduled to conclude on November 29, 2024.
Speaking to The Citizen today, Wednesday, November 20, 2024, NECTA Executive Secretary Dr Said Ally Mohamed confirmed that Clement would not lose his opportunity to complete his final exam.
Dr Mohamed stated that NECTA would apply its regulations to handle the matter, ensuring that the student’s examination rights remain protected.
