  • Ms Kikwete said her decision to contest again was driven by a continued commitment to tackling developmental challenges in the constituency

Lindi. Former First Lady and incumbent Member of Parliament for Mchinga Constituency, Ms Salma Kikwete, has officially declared her intention to seek re-election in the forthcoming general election.

Ms Kikwete, who served as First Lady during the presidency of her husband, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (2005–2015), collected nomination forms on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) district offices in Lindi Municipality.

The forms were issued to her by CCM District Secretary Mr Mohamed Lawa.

Speaking shortly after the handover, Ms Kikwete said her decision to contest again was driven by a continued commitment to tackling developmental challenges in the constituency.

“I am seeking the people’s mandate once more so that I can further the development agenda and work to resolve the ongoing challenges in Mchinga over the next five years,” she said.
