Former Tanzanian envoy lands top job

Dar es Salaam.  Tanzania’s Ali Mchumo has been appointed as the managing director of the International Network of Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (Inbar).
The director will head the organisation for three years.
Inbar is a multilateral development organisation, which promotes environmentally sustainable development using bamboo and rattan.
Inbar comprises 45 member states whose secretariat headquarters is based in Beijing China and regional offices in India, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Ecuador.  Tanzania is among the founding members of Inbar in 1997.
In his career, Mr Mchumo held various national, regional and international posts.
He was a former deputy minister for Home Affairs before being appointed the minister of Trade.
In addition, he was an envoy of Tanzania to  Mozambique, Japan, UK and United Nations in Geneva.
Mr Mchumo also served as chairman of the General Council of WTO and of UNHCR,Chairman of the Governing Council of CFC and as President of the Trade Development Board of UNCTAD.
He also served as the deputy Secretary-General (Finance and Administration) of the East African Community.
Prior to joining Inbar, Mr Mchumo was the managing director of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), an intergovernmental financial institution, which is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
