Dar es Salaam. Tragedy struck this morning as a four-storey building on the junction of Congo/Mchikichini Streets in Kariakoo collapsed, leaving several people trapped under the rubble.

Rescue efforts are currently underway, with emergency responders and residents working tirelessly to save lives.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has urged the public to remain calm, assuring that rescue operations are being conducted to locate and assist victims.

He noted that it is still too early to confirm the number of fatalities or injuries, as rescue teams continue to sift through the debris.

So far, about 12 survivors have been pulled from the rubble, providing a glimmer of hope amid the devastation.

The scene remains tense, with both the Fire and Rescue Brigade and local volunteers working together in an effort to find more survivors.

The Police, led by the Dar Special Police Zone Commander Jumanne Muliro, are on-site to oversee the rescue operations.

Official details regarding the number of casualties are expected as the situation unfolds.
