Dodoma. The case involving four individuals accused of gang raping will continue on Wednesday August 21, 2024, with the hearing of witnesses brought by the prosecution.

The case number 23476 of 2024, which was adjourned yesterday is being heard in camera at the Dodoma Resident Magistrate's Court.

The four are accused of two counts – gang raping and sodomising a young woman whose name was not revealed in the court for reasons of protecting her humanity.

On Tuesday, one of the five witnesses brought by the prosecution was heard but not finished.

There was no time to cross-examine the witness, and their testimony will continue today, defence lawyer Meshack Ngamando told reporters yesterday.

The defendants are being represented by four independent lawyers named Godfrey Wasonga, Meshaki Ngamando, Boniventura Njeru, and Sadick Omari Sadick, while the prosecution is represented by three lawyers.

The accused have already arrived at the court on Wednesday from the custody, ready for case being heard in a closed court session.

The assistant director of the National Prosecution Office, Mr Renatus Mkude, stated that the ongoing process involves presenting evidence, with the names of the witnesses being withheld to avoid compromising the trial.
