Gang rape case sees key developments as witness count hits 12

Dodoma. The criminal case involving the gang rape of a girl from Yombo Dovya, Dar es Salaam, has seen a significant development, with the number of witnesses testifying rising to 12.

On September 3, 2024, two witnesses provided their testimonies before the Resident Magistrate's Court in Dodoma.

Meshack Ngamando, the defense attorney for the accused, addressed the press outside the court, stating that one witness completed his testimony and was cross-examined. However, the second witness was unable to finish due to time constraints.

"Today, we heard from two witnesses. One completed his testimony and was cross-examined. The second witness had more details to present, so his testimony will continue tomorrow starting at 12:00 noon," said Ngamando.

Ngamando also mentioned that the case will resume tomorrow, with the prosecution expected to present additional witnesses against the youths charged with gang rape.

The trial, numbered 23476 of 2024, is being overseen by Senior Resident Magistrate Zabibu Mpangule at the Dodoma Resident Magistrate's Court. It began on August 19, 2024, and has been proceeding continuously, with the prosecution currently presenting its witnesses.
