Dar es Salaam. The government of Tanzania has called on sellers and distributors of cooking gas cylinders to ramp up their efforts in expanding the use of clean energy across the country.
With only 6 percent of households currently using clean cooking energy, the government aims to increase this number to 80 percent by the end of 2034.
The Commissioner for Energy and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy, Innocent Luoga, made these remarks during a briefing on the government’s involvement in the upcoming Energy Connect 2024 conference, scheduled for October 16 to 18.
Luoga highlighted the critical role of gas distributors in meeting the government's ambitious goal. He emphasized that distribution efforts must ensure reliable supply and affordability for consumers.
"As the government, we are ready to collaborate with both the private and public sectors to enhance infrastructure.
However, we need stakeholders to guarantee the availability of clean energy. It's not enough to distribute gas cylinders if the gas supply is unreliable or the price is unaffordable,” Luoga said.
He further urged stakeholders to ensure gas is available nationwide, at affordable prices, and supported by a strong distribution network.
