What you need to know:

  • The Minister for State in the President's Office (Public Service and Good Governance), Mr George Mkuchika, has said investigations will be conducted to ascertain whether its officials really engaged in a physical fight in office. Then, appropriate action would be taken.

Dodoma. Minister for State in the President's Office (Public Service and Good Governance), Mr George Mkuchika, has said the government is investigating its servants in Mwanga District who were accused of engaging in a physical fight in the office.

Recently, President John Magufuli sacked the Mwanga District Commissioner Aaron Mbogho just a few days after it was reported that the district executive director and the district security officer engaged in a fight in the office.

Mr Mkuchika said this on Tuesday, February 5 when responding to a supplementary question by Rombo lawmaker (Chadema) Joseph Selasini in Parliament.

“I would like to know whether the government has stopped vetting when appointing its officers, and if appointing relatives was okay,” he asked.

Responding, Mr Mkuchika said that appointment to government position was undertaken by considering such factors as qualifications, and above all the question of ethnicity was not an issue that was looked at.

“We will take action after investigations. You cannot nominate without vetting, “he said.

The minister said further that vetting was being applied, but a human being remained a human being and could change later and act contrary to expectations.
