Dar es Salaam. Deputy minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Stella Manyanya has called upon the College of Business Education (CBE) to conduct action research to improve the country’s business environment.
Speaking during the 52nd graduation ceremony, Ms Manyanya said the country was facing challenges in trade and investment, noting that research findings should help address the challenges.
“Therefore, the college should collaborate with the government to address the challenges and attract more investments and trade and help realise the country’s industrialisation strategy,” she said.
She noted that the government was committed to putting in place a conducive environment for higher education institutions and academicians to conduct intellectual activities that will positively impact on the country’s development.
CBE principal, Prof Emmanuel Mjema, said poor infrastructural development, inadequate funds for research projects and a shortage of lecturers were challenges facing the college.
He said 1,602 students were graduating this year, 26 of them at postgraduate diploma, 588 at bachelor degree level, 480 at ordinary diploma level and 508 others at basic certificate level.
“Basic certificate graduates were awarded certificates in accountancy, business administration, marketing, information technology, procurement and supplies management and legal and industrial metrology,” he said.
He noted that the college had been funding staff studies both locally and abroad, reviewing curricula, renovating its buildings, improving library services and acquiring more land for building campus facilities in various parts of the country.
