Hanspope, Lauwo wanted by PCCB

Dar es Salaam.  Dar es Salaam businessmen Zakaria Hanspope and Franklin Lauwo are wanted by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB). 

Addressing a press conference on Friday, September 14, PCCB deputy director general Brigadier General John Mbungo said the two are wanted for their link to a criminal case facing several Simba Sports Club top officials.

"They are supposed to be joined in the pending criminal case number 214/2017 facing former Simba Sports Club president Evans Aveva and vice president Geoffrey Nyange," he said.

According to the assistant anti-graft tsar, Mr Hanspope is allegedly accused of providing false information to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) suggesting a possible tax evasion.

"He told TRA offices that the club had purchased artificial turf from Ninah Guangzhou Trading Company Limited worth $40,577 instead of the true value of $109,499."

He said Mr Lauwo secured over Sh249 million contracts to build Simba Sports Club ground at Bunju on the outskirts of the city through corrupt means.

"He illegally secured the contract because Mr Lauwo is not a registered contractor which has convinced PCCB to believe that corruption was used,” he said.

He added, "They are therefore required to report to PCCB offices located in various parts of the country. This is because we have failed to reach them via open and other means."

Without disclosing the amount, Mr Mbungo said, citizens who will aid their arrest will be awarded.
