Identities of four dead in Arusha bus accident revealed

Manyara. Police have released the identities of four people who died today morning when a bus they were travelling in overturned.

Manyara regional police boss Augustine Senga named the deceased as the bus conductor, Nasibu Ramadhani (43), Lawrence Mwajabara (46), a resident of Mbeya and two residents of Bonga in Babati, Salvathory Thomas and Jenny Mushi (21) who is also a student.

The accident occurred at Bonga area in Babati district at about 9.15am. The ill-fated bus was heading to Mbeya from Arusha. Some 10 other people were injured and are admitted in hospital for treatment.

Mr Senga said the bus overturned as it climbed the Haraa-Bonga escarpment. He said preliminary investigation shows that the driver was negotiating a sharp corner before overturning.

"Three people died on the spot while one passed away while on transit to the hospital,” he said.

Five of the 10 in hospital were seriously injured, the police said. Other passengers escaped with minor injuries.
