Dodoma. Unknown people broke into a house belonging to a Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) journalist on Saturday and destroyed properties but they did not take anything away.
Police – through Report Book (RB) number DOM/RB/4252/2023 - here are now investigating what could be the reason behind their breaking into a house for Ms Sharon Sauwa at a time when she was in office.
MCL publishes The Citizen, Mwananchi, Mwanaspoti and several digital platforms.
The intruders destroyed four window panes, two doors and scattered on the floor various documents that they found inside the house.
They also switched on electricity stoves; connected the iron to electricity and switched it on then left it on the bedsheet on top of the mattresses. They also put two pieces of timber and window curtains on the same place where the electricity iron was.
According to Ms Sauwa, she returned from her official duties at around 7.40pm on Saturday and noticed that things were not the way they were when she left for the office in the morning.
“I was even afraid of entering my own house so I invited my neighbours so we can see what happened. At that time, I assumed that they had swept and took everything away with them,” said Ms Sauwa.
She said it was after getting inside that they realised that the intruders might have been looking for some documents because they stole nothing.
“The fact that my various documents – including my academic certificates - were found scattered on the floor outside the house. This tells me that they were on a mission in search of some documents,” she said.
Ms Sauwa said she would throw away all food products from her house because the intruders had searched even in places where she keeps her maize flour.
