Journalist shot dead by unknown assailants

What you need to know:

  • According to the deceased's younger brother, Nelson Mwita, who spoke to Mwananchi Digital, the attack on his brother occurred in Sirari Ward, Tarime District, Mara Region.

Dar es Salaam. A journalist, Charles Mwita, is reported to have died after being shot multiple times by unknown assailants.

Mwita 48, joined Mwanzanchi Communications Ltd in 2010 as a Sub-editor  for The Citizen where he served for Seven years over two spells which ended in 2019.

He also at different periods worked for the Guardian newspaper which is part of the IPP media based in Dar es Salaam

According to the deceased's younger brother, Nelson Mwita, who spoke to Mwananchi Digital, the attack on his brother occurred in Sirari Ward, Tarime District, Mara Region.

“According to eyewitnesses, my brother was ambushed by three unknown individuals who shot him several times before vanishing. We have already reported the incident to the police,” Nelson said.

“It was a sudden incident and the family has not yet made funeral arrangements,” he added.

When contacted to confirm the incident, the Tarime Rorya Regional Police Commander, ACP Mark Njera, stated that he had not received any information about it but promised to follow up and provide a comprehensive report.
