Kagame arrives on a two-day state visit

  • Rwanda President Paul Kagame arrives in Tanzania on Thursday, March 7, 2019 for a two-day state visit.

Dar es Salaam. Rwandan President Paul Kagame has arrived in Tanzania on a two-day state visit.

The plane carrying Mr Kagame landed at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) at 3:25pm where he was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Palamagamba Kabudi and other government officials.

Other officials who were present to welcome Mr Kagame included Ilala, Kinondoni and Kigamboni district commissioners, namely Ms Sophia Mjema, Mr Daniel Chongolo and Ms Sarah Msafiri.

Also, present was CCM Women Wing Dar es Salaam regional chairperson Kate Kamba.

Mr Kagame, who doubles as the East African Community (EAC) chairman, is visiting Tanzania following an invitation by President John Magufuli.

He is visiting the country amid deteriorating diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Uganda.

Though the objective of his visit couldn't be immediately established, but strengthening bilateral ties in matters of security, trade and cooperation among EAC member states could some items on the list in the meeting between two leaders.
