Kariakoo strike enters day three as traders demand another meeting with PM Majaliwa

Dar es Salaam. Various shops are still closed, with only a handful opening in Dar es Salaam’s business hub, Kariakoo, as the traders strike enters day three.

The Citizen’s team in Kariakoo has seen Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Jumanne Muliro, and his team visiting various shops with the aim of strengthening security in those areas.

"As I said yesterday, traders should open their shops and not be afraid; that's why we are here to check," he said as he walked through streets along the Kariakoo market.

On the other side, traders are gathered in numbers in Ilala, demanding a meeting with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, as he promised when he visited Kariaoo on Monday.

They have declined the request that the premier only meet their representative.

UPDATE: PM Majaliwa has agreed to meet with the traders at Mnazi Mmoja grounds in Dar es Salaam.
