Through the K4 Expansion Project, the company aims to increase sugar production and benefit local communities. The project involves building a new sugar mill and expanding storage and packaging facilities, ultimately doubling sugar production capacity.
The appeal was made during the National Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, where the company showcased the multi-billion-shilling expansion and the growing market presence of its flagship brand, Bwana Sukari.
The company’s commercial and supply chain director, Mr Fimbo Butallah, said the project would double the company’s production capacity, adding 144,000 tonnes annually and increasing total output from 126,000 tonnes to 271,000 tonnes per year.
“This expansion translates into significant opportunities for distributors and partners,” he said.
“With doubled production, we will expand our distribution footprint, create more jobs, and positively impact the entire value chain of Bwana Sukari,” he added.
Representing cane growers in the Kilombero Valley, Mr Clemency Stephen Mjami of Mkula Cane Growers AMCOS expressed optimism about the project’s potential to boost grower participation.
“Currently, we supply 600,000 tonnes of cane to the mill. Upon completion, we expect to deliver up to 1.5 million tonnes,” he said.
Mr Mjami also praised the company’s transparent and timely payment system, which he said enhanced growers’ ability to access loans and financial products by building trust with financial institutions.
The director general of the Sugar Board of Tanzania, Prof Kenneth Bengesi, lauded the company’s investment of more than Sh744 billion in expanding its mills.
“We congratulate Kilombero Sugar for its visionary investment. The government remains committed to safeguarding the sugar industry to ensure national sufficiency and long-term sustainability,” he said.
