Kingunge quits CCM

What you need to know:

Speaking with journalists in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, Kingunge said that although he is happy to have participated in the building of democracy in CCM, he cannot participate in the breaking of that democracy by the same party.

Dar es Salaam. CCM cadre Kingunge Ngombale Mwiru quits the party citing infringement of the party's constitution as the main reason.

He said he will not be joining any other party.
Speaking with journalists in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, Kingunge said that although he is happy to have participated in the building of democracy in CCM, he cannot participate in the breaking of that democracy by the same party.
In an earlier statement Kingunge said that he was not happy with the process of nominating a  CCM’s presidential candidate in Dodoma in July.

Adding that  since 1995, the Central Committee was responsible for listening to every individual who wants to contest for presidency through CCM and lamented the closed manner in which this year's process took place:
“Our constitution says that all human beings are created equal and that every person has the right to be respected, why then did the party not listen to all  38 cadres who wanted to contest for presidency?” he questioned.
He concluded that today’s CCM has lost its vision of upholding liberty within and outside the country and expressed disappointment at the selfish behavior of party members.
