Liwale constituency by-election to be held on October 14

NEC chairman Judge Semistocle Kaijage,

Dar es Salaam. National Electoral Commission has announced that Liwale by-election will be held in October 13.

The election will be held following the defection of Mr Zuberi Kuchauka (CUF) to the ruling CCM earlier this month.

In a statement, which was signed by NEC chairman Judge Semistocle Kaijage, the commission announces the by-election after being notified by the Speaker of the National Assembly that the Liwale Parliamentary seat is vacant.

“I received a letter from the Speaker of the National Assembly, which indicates that the Liwale Parliamentary seat is vacant as par Section 37 (3) of the National Elections Act,” he was quoted as saying.

Judge Kaijage said those, who wish to vie for the Seat will start to collect the nomination forms from September 7 to September 13.

Campaigns for the by-elections will start on 14 September to 12 October.
