Majaliwa sworn in as Prime Minister

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has sworn in Prime Minister Elect, Mr Majaliwa Kassim Majaliwa as the country’s 11th Premier.
Mr Majaliwa was sworn in during a colourful ceremony on Friday at the Chamwino State Lodge in Dodoma.
The event follows president Magufuli’s nomination of the Ruangwa Constituency MP announced in parliament yesterday by Speaker, Job Ndugai and was later endorsed by 73.5pc of MP’s votes.
The ceremony was attended by government leaders both from the Union and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ) with the exception to Zanzibar's Second Vice President, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad.
MP’s from the Opposition Coalition parties (Ukawa) namely CUF, Chadema, NCCR-Mageuzi and NLD were also truant, possibly due to the on-going political crisis in Zanzibar.
Political and social analysts expect President Magufuli’s State of Nation address during the inaugural of the 11th parliament today will draw a roadmap to measures the government was expected to take in order to tame the political impasse in Isles.
Background on Majaliwa Kassim
According to historical background, the PM elect was born on December 22, 1960. He joined Mnacho Primary School from 1970 to 1976. He then joined Kigonsera Secondary School between 1977- 1980.
From 1991 to 1993, Mr Majaliwa joined Mtwara Teacher’s Training College before joining the University of Dar es Salaam in 1994 for tertiary education, where he graduated in 1998. Later on, he joined Stockholm University for further studies.
He has served the government in different positions since 1984 when he joined Public Service as a teacher in Lindi Region. He has also served as a district and region Teacher’s Union Secretary before becoming the District Commissioner in Lindi.
He was elected MP for Ruangwa Constituency in 2010. Retired President, Jakaya Kikwete appointed him Deputy Minister into Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government specializing in Education affairs where he served to the expiry of the 4th phase government.
