Dar es Salaam. The Regional Commissioner for Dar es Salaam, Mr Paul Makonda, has assured city residents of his office's commitment to maintaining peace during the forthcoming Parliamentary by-election for Ukonga Constituency.

The by-election is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 16, 2018, in Dar es Salaam.

"I urge voters to leave the polling stations immediately after they cast their votes. This means that people should avoid organising illegal meetings at the polling stations, before and after the voting process," he warned.

He made the remarks when he was speaking to journalists at a press conference held at his office in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

During the press conference, Mr Makonda further called on political parties to embrace democracy and accept the by-election results once they are announced.

“As the chairman of the regional security committee, I am determined to maintain peace in the region. My office will cooperate with security organs to ensure that the voting process is done peacefully,” he added.
