MCL journalists shine in EJAT nominations with 18 nods

Arusha. Eighteen journalists from Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) have been nominated for the 2022 Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT).
They are part of 91 out of 728 media professionals who sought nominations in different categories.
The journalists were announced in Arusha yesterday by the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), following the submission of 893 journalistic works. Announcing the finalists, MCT executive secretary Kajubi Mkajanga said 291 more journalists’ works have been received as compared to 598 fielded in 2021. He outlined that 36 out of 91 finalists are print journalists, 27 are social media writers, 15 are radio journalists, and 13 are television reporters.
“Winners will be announced on July 22 at a gala in the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam,” he said.
The EJAT 2022 chief judge, Mr Mkumbwa Ally, said there were challenges in getting winners in the investigative reporting categories.
He said the seven judges worked for nine days, noting that there was a notable improvement in submitted television and social media works.
MCL journalists who made it to the finals are Ephrahim Bahemu, Peter Elias, George Helahela, Julius Mnganga, Mussa Juma, Elizabeth Edward, and Tumaini Msowoya.
Others are Imani Makongoro, Saddam Sadick, Josephine Christopher, Mariam Mbwana, Kelvin Matandiko, and Pamela Chilongola.
And yet others are Herieth Makwetta, Juma Issihaka, Janeth Joseph, Baraka Loshilaa, and Clezencia Tryphone.
