Dar es Salaam.  You can now access your favourite newspapers The Citizen, Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti via My Vodacom App, thanks to an agreement between Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) and Vodacom Tanzania.

The two companies launched a campaign on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 to enable readers to get their favourite newspapers online through eGazeti that is available on My Vodacom App.

Dubbed ‘Habari Ziendelee’, the campaign will help subscribers to get news any time.

Apart from publishing The Citizen, Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti, MCL also runs MCL Digital and several other online platforms.

The eGazeti is an online newspaper platform which gives readers access to all MCL newspapers at a go.

“eGazeti is convenient and cost-effective. It can be accessed anytime, anywhere. It offers timely news from reliable sources, with email notifications when the e-paper arrives as early as 12am,” MCL’s corporate affairs and marketing manager, Ms Vivian Temi, said at the firm’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

The ‘Habari Ziendelee’ campaign, she said, will also help readers to make informed decisions, and thus be able to grab opportunities as they appear through reports in the newspapers.

According to her, eGazeti subscribers can get the three newspapers for only Sh500 daily. They can also access Mwananchi Scoop magazine for free.

Readers can choose to pay for daily, weekly, monthly, or annual subscriptions.

“eGazeti is available for both PlayStore for Android users and AppStore for iOS users,” Ms Temi said.

According to the director of digital services at Vodacom Tanzania, Mr Nguvu Kamando, the decision to partner with MCL was based on the publishing firm’s as the leading media house in terms of content and distribution in Tanzania.

"Through this service, Tanzanians and more than 17 million Vodacom subscribers can get information in a timely and convenient manner. We will also provide the service at the lowest cost possible,” he said.

Mr Kamando added that the partnership between Vodacom and MCL has existed for a long since the days of Habari SMS when subscribers of the telecommunication firm could receive breaking news tips through SMS from MCL.

“Subscribers will be able to access archives of previous publications of their favourite newspapers through a section of the archive available in the Vodacom App. This is the kind of innovation we want in this country.”

Mr Kamando said it was Vodacom’s vision to bring development to all citizens and that through the ‘Habari Ziendelee’ campaign, the focus will be on local content to ensure that no one was left behind.
