Medinova polyclinic hosts free heart check-up camp in Tanzania

What you need to know:

  • The free medical heart check-up camp and health talk that will offer essential health services to the public is expected to be hosted on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

Dar es Salaam. Poor dietary habits and a lack of exercise are silently driving the rise in heart-related illnesses across Tanzania.

These conditions not only jeopardize lives but also impose a heavy financial burden on families, many of whom cannot afford the high costs of treatment.

In response to this growing health challenge, Medinova Specialised Polyclinic is launching an initiative to raise awareness and promote early detection of heart diseases.

The free medical heart check-up camp and health talk that will offer essential health services to the public is expected to be hosted on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

Led by renowned cardiologist Dr. Hery Mwandolela, the event will provide Tanzanians with the opportunity to access vital heart health assessments at no cost.

“The camp will run from morning to evening and include a range of check-ups and consultations, such as blood pressure monitoring, random blood sugar tests, electrocardiograms (ECG), SPO2 evaluations, and more,” reads part of a press statement availed to The Citizen on Thursday, December 12.

In Tanzania, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, hypertension, and stroke affect around 13 percent of the population.

These conditions are often exacerbated by unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyles, which make prevention and early detection all the more critical.

Through this initiative, Medinova aims to educate the public on the risks associated with these lifestyle habits and inspire positive changes that can significantly reduce the impact of heart disease and related conditions.

One of the key features of this event is its inclusivity.

By offering free and discounted services, Medinova ensures that individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds can benefit, contributing to Tanzania’s broader efforts to reduce the prevalence of NCDs and promote a healthier, more productive society.

As Tanzanians prepare to attend the heart health camp, the message is clear: prevention is better than cure.

Medinova’s initiative is a critical step in fostering a culture of preventive care, encouraging communities to embrace healthier lifestyles and make informed decisions about their well-being.

Through efforts like these, Tanzania can move toward becoming a nation that prioritises proactive health management over expensive medical interventions.
